Many media outlets publish or
broadcast information on UV radiation levels for cities across
Australia and New Zealand. This is based on the Solar UV Index
(UVI) supplied by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and by
the National Institute for Water and Atmosphere.
When
the UVI is above 8 UV radiation levels will be intense enough
to cause damage to exposed skin in as little as 10-12 minutes.
When the UVI level is below 3 it is relatively safe to be
outdoors.
